They are available for around $6.99 on Amazon.

NCI states chemotherapy treatment can cause the skin to become dry, itchy, or red. It may even cause the skin to darken in appearance or peel, while the nails may also become cracked and dark.

Fragrance-free skin care that is gentle and mild can help moisturize and soothe dry and irritated skin, and lip balms and hand creams can ease chapped or cracked lips and nails.

What Is A Chemo Care Bag

If you came across this post in your search engine of choice, you were likely searching for specific information about chemo care packages or chemo care bags.

For those of you who landed here for other reasons, though, I felt a quick explanation would be helpful.

A cancer patient going through chemotherapy may have sides effects like:

  • Appetite changes, nausea, and vomiting
  • Mouth, tongue, and throat problems
  • Nerve problems, such as numbness, tingling, and pain
  • Skin and nail changes such as dry skin and color change
  • Chemo brain, which can affect concentration and focus

So the items in the chemo care package typically include self-care items that assist with the above possible side effects and should help before, during, or after a chemotherapy treatment.

    Practical Gifts For Chemo Patients

Below is the list of the most useful items to see your loved ones through chemotherapy. All of these make great gifts for chemo patients. If youre looking for chemo basket ideas, the gifts in this list are the most essential.

    Comfort gifts for chemo patients

    • A fluffy warm blanket These are highly sought out and appreciated by chemo patients. The chemo blankets most hospitals provide are often thin and insufficient. The patient will appreciate a warmer, bigger blanket. Patients commonly take these blankets with them to chemo for added comfort. Click chemo blankets to have a look at some good examples! This is a set that also has other items which are recommended in this article.
    • Food Delivery gift cards from UberEats or similar services. Chemotherapy can be taxing on the body and the patients may feel exhausted most of the day, so having discount cards for food delivery services can be extremely beneficial. Patients on chemo feel cravings for certain foods while other foods make them feel nauseous. Thus, its great for allowing them to pick from a restaurant of their choice and having it delivered to them so they dont have to leave the bed. More about food-related gifts can be found in the section below.
    • Books, Puzzles These can keep loved ones occupied.
    • A small portable metal fan These are highly useful as cancer patients often get hot flashes due to chemo. Make sure its a quiet fan so the patient can leave it on at night while sleeping.

    Meals & Restaurant Gift Cards

Include a gift card to their favorite restaurant for when they get a craving. You can also consider making some prepared meals and dropping them off at your loved ones home. Time spent in hospitals or clinics likely means fewer home-cooked meals, so that can be quite a thoughtful gesture.

Get them a for the days they want their pizza.

    Personalized Coupons Offering Help

Sometimes, a great gift isnt material. Your friend might need something you can do rather than buy.

Personalized gift certificates or coupons are endearing. They can come in handy when your friend isnt feeling 100%. Just be sure to make gift certificates specific.

For example, you could design and print a coupon your friend can redeem for:

    • A day of housecleaning
    • A night of home cooking
    • A week of grocery shopping
    • Taking the kids for a day

Something like one hour of help is too vague. This is more likely to result in the gift certificate going to waste.

Your friend may need help with certain things, but may not think or want to ask for it. For example:

    • Washing windows
    • Cooking a childs favorite meal

Cancer-related decisions like treatment, symptom management, and day-to-day living with cancer can feel overwhelming. Specific coupons can help provide welcome relief.

Chemotherapies That Can Cause Nerve Damage In Hands And Feet

Approximately 30-40% of people that receive neurotoxic chemotherapy will develop chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy . The effects are reduced sensations, and pain and can be short or long-term.

If the neuropathy is bad, it can affect the amount of chemotherapy that a person can receive. Individuals taking these chemotherapies should consider using cryotherapy on their hands and feet.

Gift Ideas For A Patient Undergoing Chemotherapy

Undergoing chemotherapy can be a very difficult time for both patients and caregivers. There’s no rulebook, no guidelines, no playbook, no how-to manual. We often get asked by our community: What more can I do to help?” We like the idea of putting together a homemade personalized care package or gift basket to show your loved one you are thinking of them.

To help get you started, we created a list of items you can include in a customized chemo care package you can gift before, during or after treatment:

Other Ways You Can Help : Cancer Care Package For Women

What else can you do to offer help and show support? Ulreich says its simple: Be there for them.

We want to encourage patients that they are living with cancer, not dying from it, she says. Encourage patient to live their lives, not sit around letting the cancer take over. If they do, the cancer wins.

Another idea, if a patient is experiencing nausea, is to offer to set up a meal delivery among friends. The smell of food cooking can intensify nausea so preparing a meal and bringing it to the patient can help. An added bonus: food delivery also brings regular company for the patient.

It can be as simple as setting up regular phone calls and lunch dates, or driving them to appointments and picking up medication at the pharmacy.

Most often, Ulreich says, cancer patients just need an extra hand during treatment.

    Get To Know Other Patients

In years past, people have often brought a support partner with them to chemo treatments. However, during COVID-19, in order to keep patients safe there are many additional restrictions in place. Therefore, unfortunately, patients are rarely allowed visitors in the treatment area. What weve learned is that many patients reach out for the support of other patients. Consider playing games or simply chatting to other patients going through the same thing you are. That extra support can go a long way to boost morale.

    Creating A Cancer Care Package

When a friend or a loved one has been diagnosed with cancer, its natural to want to lend your support and show you care. But what can you do? And what will really help your loved one as he or she begins cancer treatment?

Cynthia Ulreich, an oncology-certified nurse practitioner at the Josephine Ford Cancer Institute at Henry Ford Health, says one idea is to create a cancer care package filled with items that will make your loved one feel more comfortable in the hospital and pass the time during treatment.

I often hear from patients that they want to maintain a sense of normalcy during cancer treatment, she says. So creating a cancer care package that includes their favorite games or books, snacks or a warm blanket is a great option.

How To Create A Cancer Care Package

Cancer Care Package For Women Chemo Gift Box For Her Help

Cancer care packages should be tailored to the patient to best meet his or her needs. So before you start gathering items, Ulreich recommends first talking with the patient .

Ask how he or she is feeling to get a sense if the patient is even ready to receive a care package, and learn more about the general treatment plan to help you know what kind of items he or she might need. Patients who undergo chemotherapy may need activities to keep them busy during longer treatment sessions than those having radiation treatment, for example.

To get started, Ulreich recommends filling your cancer care package with some of these items:

    7. A Home-Cooked Meal or a Takeaway

You can be a big help by providing them with home-cooked meal delivery to their door. Alternatively, you can batch cook and store meals in their freezer so that all they have to do is heat it.

However, sometimes, there is nothing better than a good takeaway at the end of a long day. So you perhaps treat them to a take-out from their favorite restaurant.

But before you make or buy a meal, please do make sure you understand the effects of chemo on appetite and diet and if in doubt ask if certain foods are OK.

    8. Vouchers for Takeaways/Restaurant

Your friend/loved one may already be dreaming about the first place they can go after their treatment is complete, when they dont feel so nauseous and can go back to their old eating habits. You can make this experience even more special by gifting them with a voucher from their favorite restaurant.

    9. Cool Bag

There is nothing worse than going to take a sip of water, and it is warm! Help ensure chemotherapy patients stay hydrated by giving them a small cool bag in which they can store their water and snacks or medicines

    11 Practical gifts

    1. Backpack Or Travel Bag

A spacious backpack or bag is a great way to ensure there is enough space to carry everything they need, and means they wonââ¬â¢t have to carry multiple bags to treatments.
