Julia Louis-Dreyfus reveals she is battling breast cancer

According to The New Yorker, Louis-Dreyfus experienced terrible side effects after each of the six rounds of chemo she went through. They included “debilitating” nausea and diarrhea, an inability to eat without vomiting, painful neuropathy in her hands and feet, and sores on her face and inside her mouth.

She did find a way to make the best of the difficult experience, however. The old cliché about laughter being the best medicine turns out to be true,” the actress said while rehearsing her acceptance speech for the she received in October. “When I was getting my hideous chemotherapy, Id cram a bunch of friends and family into the tiny treatment room with me….We really did have some great laughs.” She joked, “Of course, I was heavily medicated and slipping in and out of consciousness, so I was a pretty easy audience.”

We got a glimpse of that support network last October, when she posted on Instagram about two of her Veep costars, Tony Hale and Timothy Simmons, helping her get through her second round of chemo. Fans got to witness some of the love and humor Louis-Dreyfus received in virtual form as well, including a truly hilarious video that some more of her Veep costars made to psych her up for round three. And the actress shared a Michael Jacksoninspired video her sons made to celebrate their mom’s last day of chemo in January.

What Is Stage 2 Beast Cancer

To better understand Louis-Dreyfus cancer diagnosis, its important to talk about what stage means for breast cancer patients.

Stage really refers to how big a tumor is and how many lymph nodes are involved, Dr. Elizabeth Comen, a medical oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, previously told SurvivorNet.

More specifically, Louis-Dreyfus had stage 2 cancer.

When a woman has Stage 2 breast cancer, it means that the tumors probably bigger than 2 cm and/or she has lymph nodes involved, Dr. Comen explained. And if she has lymph nodes involved, she probably doesnt have that many lymph nodes involved. Because if you have more lymph nodes, like 10, 11, 12, then that might be referred to as Stage 3 cancer.

An Outpouring Of Love And Support

The 2017 Emmys were held on September 17. Louis-Dreyfus learnt of her diagnosis the following day, but waited another ten days or so before she shared the sad news with the world.

The tweet prompted an outpouring of love and support for the comedian, with Kathy Griffin, Anna Kendrick and Mark Duplass among those who expressed their sympathies. HBO were also quick to release a statement in support of their star, as they braced for a rearranged shooting schedule of the seventh season of Veep.
