Breast Cancer Prevention With Cupping Massage

19-Year-Old with Size K Breasts Gets Help

Pink Ribbon Month

This month we welcome another triumphant year raising awareness about breast cancer, honouring the survivors as well as ever importantly increasing the awareness of the disease.

The Pink Ribbon is an international symbol of breast cancer awareness. Pink Ribbon Month campaigns every year to remind women to perform self-exams to spot any early signs of breast cancer and helps to offer support and advice to anyone who may have the disease.

A little more about Lymphatic Drainage

Recent medical studies support the use of massage for increasing the production of the natural hormone oxytocin. Reports show that oxytocin induces significant growth inhibition of breast cancer cells as well as an ability to remove free radicals associated with cellular metabolic processes.

Cupping massage stretches and opens our lymphatic vessels helping increase blood circulation and movement of lymph which in turn helps carry out toxins and fluids out of our body. This cleansing process aids the breast tissue by reducing the accumulated waste, inflammation, rejuvenating breast tissue and potentially assisting the body in breaking down any benign cysts in the area.

Home breast care is easier today more than ever. Incorporating LURE simple and easy to use silicone massage vacuum cups in the shower or dry with any lubricant or body oil will help boost lymphatic flow and help carry out any unwanted waste and toxins from our bodies.

A 2020 Study Found Coffee Pods Have Estrogenic Activity

The stay-at-home lifestyle of the pandemic may have caused some coffee drinkers to put more time into preparing their brew each day. Even so, December 2020 figures from the consumer data firm Statista suggest that 27% of Americans still enjoyed their single-use coffee maker last year.

Meanwhile, last May, a team of nutrition and engineering scientists at the University of Connecticut conducted an experiment with the same plastic coffee pods that many people use on a daily basis. In an abstract published in Current Research in Toxicology, the researchers concluded, “All capsule coffee samples possessed estrogenic activity.”

According to research like this 2011 study, estrogenic activity occurs when chemicals mimic or otherwise adversely affect the body’s naturally occurring hormonal process. Health problems that have been associated with this effect are increased rates of cancers , early puberty onset in children, obesity, reduced sperm count, and dysfunction of some sexual organs.

Change In Breast Size Or Shape

Weight gain, menstrual cycle changes and pregnancy or breastfeeding can all impact the size and shape of your breasts. But if your breasts change shape independent of these other factorsand if it occurs suddenlyit could be a sign of cancer and you should schedule a screening with your doctor, says Dr. Johnson. “This can occur in the week before your menses so always wait one week after to see if it goes away on its own,” she says. If it is occurring in both breasts, it is likely not due to breast cancer, she says.

Caffeine Caffeic Acid Reduces Cell Division And Increases Cell Death

Next, the researchers analyzed the effects of two substances present in coffee caffeine and caffeic acid on breast cancer cells.

The team found that both of these compounds particularly caffeine reduced cell division and increased cell death among both ER+ and estrogen receptor-negative breast cancer cells. When tamoxifen was applied, the effect was even stronger.

This shows that these substances have an effect on the breast cancer cells and turn off signaling pathways that the cancer cells require to grow, say Rosendahl and Jernström.

The researchers add:

The clinical and experimental findings demonstrate various anticancer properties of caffeine and caffeic acid against both ER+ and ER- breast cancer that may sensitize tumor cells to tamoxifen and reduce breast cancer growth.

The team stresses, however, that breast cancer patients should not swap their medication for coffee. But if you like coffee and are also taking tamoxifen, add Rosendahl and Jernström, there is no reason to stop drinking it. Just two cups a day is sufficient to make a difference.

Last month, Medical News Today reported on a study claiming just one cup of coffee a day could significantly reduce the risk of liver cancer, while another study found consuming five cups a day could reduce the risk of heart attack.

How Safe Are Bpa

A study conducted by Environmental Health Perspectivefound that almost all of the 455 commercially available plastics that were tested leached estrogenic chemicals, even in BPA-free products.

Bisphenol S , had come forward as a BPA alternative, but may be just as harmful.

BPS was a favored replacement because it was thought to be more resistant to leaching. If people consumed less of the chemical, the idea went, it would not cause any or only minimal harm.

Yet BPS is getting out. Nearly 81 percent of Americans have detectable levels of BPS in their urine. And once it enters the body it can affect cells in ways that parallels BPA. via ScientificAmerican

According to NPR, the new standard for plastics is to be EA-free, which means free of not only BPA, short for bisphenol A, but also free of other chemicals that mimic the hormone estrogen.

Keurig doesnt currently disclose what kind of plastic it uses in its k-cups nor its brewing machines. However, the company says that its new k-cup will be made of Tritan and other plastics, which they insist is EA-free.

However, Mariah Blake, who recently published an investigative report on Mother Jones about BPA and other plastics, warns dangerous chemicals in plastic products are a much bigger problem than most people realize.

There are more than 80,000 chemicals that are used in commerce in the United States, Blake says.

And only a very tiny fraction of these have ever been tested for safety.

Coffee And Tea Consumption Are Not Associated With Harmful Quality Of Life Survival Outcomes Among Breast Cancer Survivors

The findings add to a growing body of literature that demonstrate coffee and/or tea consumption is not detrimental to breast cancer survivors, according to the study authors.

Survivors of breast cancer who consumed multiple cups of coffee and/or tea per day were not at an increased risk for worse quality of life outcomes, according to recently published study results.

Modifiable lifestyle behaviors such as unhealthy diet, insufficient physical activity and excess weight have been linked to worse oncological outcomes, deterioration of quality of life and more severe treatment-related symptoms, the study authors wrote.

Nutrition is often a relevant concern for breast cancer survivors since many report having asked for further information on how to better improve their health following treatment, according to the investigators.

The problem, the study authors explained, is that a significant proportion of breast cancer survivors fail to adhere to dietary guidelines.

One such recommendation from the Food and Drug Administration, is that healthy adults should not consume more than 400 milligrams of caffeine per day, or approximately four to five cups of coffee per day.

However, as the investigators noted, there has been a lack of research assessing the affects of coffee and tea consumption on quality of life among breast cancer survivors.

Daily Coffee And Survival

The study included 8,900 women who had been diagnosed with breast cancer. The women were part of the Nurses Health Studies and they had completed questionnaires about their dietary habits along with other lifestyle and relevant factors every four years. Lead author and AICR grantee Maryam Farvid, PhD., and her colleagues, calculated averages of the womens coffee and tea habits at least a year after diagnosis and every four years thereafter.

After a median of almost a dozen years, 1,054 women had died from breast cancer out of 2,501 total deaths. Drinking over three cups of coffee a day was associated with a 25 percent lower risk of dying from breast cancer compared to non-coffee drinkers during the course of the study. Drinking over two cups of daily coffee linked to a similar lower risk of dying from any cause. Using the last questionnaire women completed before they were diagnosed, the study found that coffee intake pre-diagnosis was not linked with survival.

Three cups of daily tea after diagnosis was also associated with a 26 percent lower risk of dying from any cause compared with non-drinkers. These links showed after taking into account breast cancer treatment, BMI, physical activity and other factors that can affect survival.

Coffee contains caffeine and other phytochemicals well studied in lab research for controlling cancer cell growth. Coffees compounds may affect survival by reducing high levels of insulin and inflammation, the paper suggests.

So What’s Up In Your Cup

In recent months, the study’s lead researcher, Ock Chun, Ph.D., MPH, confirmed to Eat This, Not That! in a phone discussion that her team did observe, as they reported in their abstract, that “coffee brewed from capsule machines may contain estrogenic chemicals migrated from plastic.”

However, Chun said, their research remained ongoing, and she explained: “We are exposed to these chemicals from everywhere these days.” That can include food packaging and even the paper some shopping receipts are printed on.

What Does This Mean For Me

If you are a breast cancer survivor, this study suggests that drinking coffee will not increase your chance of dying of breast cancer and may improve your chance of breast cancer-related survival. Individuals who drank more than three cups of coffee daily had the best survival. However, decreasing your coffee consumption after diagnosis to less than what it was before diagnosis may decrease your chance of breast cancer-related survival. Drinking tea may increase your overall survival, but this study found that it has little effect on breast cancer-specific survival.

Ask your healthcare provider whether drinking coffee or tea is okay for your situation and health history. Some people need to avoid caffeine from coffee, tea or other sources for other medical reasons.

Assessment Of Medical History Anthropometric Data And Other Lifestyle Factors

Lumpectomy, Mastectomy and Reconstruction after Breast Cancer

On the 1976 baseline questionnaires, we requested information about age, weight and height, smoking status, family history of breast cancer, use of hormone therapy, and personal history of other diseases. This information has been updated on the biennial follow-up questionnaires. Body mass index was calculated as weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters. Alcohol intake was assessed on the FFQ from consumption of beer, wine and liquor. Other covariates included were age at menarche, parity, age at first birth, age at menopause, history of benign breast disease, physical activity, weight change after age 18.

Study Population And Design

Details of the study design and subject characteristics have been described elsewhere. We conducted a hospital-based case-control study in three Hong Kong public hospitals from November 2011 to January 2018. Trained interviewers conducted a face-to-face interviews with a standardized questionnaire and obtained a written informed consent form. Eligible cases were Chinese women aged 2484 years-old who were newly diagnosed as having primary breast cancer within three months prior to the interview. We matched each case with one control by 5-year age group who did not have any conditions pertaining to breast cancer, and interviewed them within 6 month after the cases were recruited. We recruited our controls with a broad spectrum of diagnoses from the Department of Medicine or Surgery from the same hospital of the cases came from. We excluded cases and controls with prior history of physician-diagnosed cancer in any site. This study was approved by the Joint Chinese University of Hong Kong-New Territories East Cluster Clinical Research Ethics Committees and the Kowloon West Cluster, and was strictly compliance with local law and the Declaration of Helsinki.
