Precautions At West Cancer Center
For the safety of our patients, their families, and staff, based on the increase in the Delta variant of COVID-19, West Cancer Center has revised the policy below:
Masks must be worn at all times, regardless of vaccination status.
Patients will continue to be asked to only bring 1 adult visitor over 16 and no child under 12 allowed in infusion.
If additional visitors accompany a patient, they may be asked to wait outside the clinic area.
Patients are asked to re-schedule their appointment if they have COVID symptoms and/or test positive.
Please give us a call at 901.683.0055 prior to your visit if you are experiencing any COVID-related symptoms.
COVID-19 Vaccine Information:
We realize patients and their families are asking about our position on the COVID-19 vaccine. Please review the following information:
The CDC recommends a 3rd vaccine for immune compromised individuals, including patients with cancer and/or receiving treatment. West strongly encourages our patients receive this 3rd vaccine for their safety.
Our West Cancer Center network is currently not able to carry the COVID-19 vaccine for our staff or patients at this time.
The COVID-19 vaccine is recommended for all oncology patients and our staff, unless pregnant .
The vaccine is felt to be safe for immunocompromised patients.
The effectiveness of this vaccine in immunocompromised patients is felt to be decreased, but there is no way to measure or predict effectiveness in an individual.
West Cancer Center Debuts In Germantown Plans Another Location In Midtown
By of The Commercial Appeal
Erich Mounce used three simple numbers today to introduce the crowd in a tent erected outside the West Cancer Center in Germantown to the purpose of the new $60.5 million facility.
The number of cancer patients anticipated to walk through the doors in the next 12 months: 35,234. The number expected to be treated with chemotherapy: 10,022. The number receiving radiation treatments: 18,200.
This is why we stand here today, said Mounce, chief executive officer of the West Cancer Center. The numbers are staggering.
Even as the ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the grand opening of the Germantown east campus facility, officials disclosed that a similar center is planned in Memphis on the Methodist University Hospital campus.
With a partnership formed in 2012 by The West Clinic, Methodist Healthcare and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, the West Cancer Center links cancer treatment, clinical trials, education and research together under the same roof.
Dr. Lee Schwartzberg, executive director of the West Cancer Center, mentioned the plans for a Memphis center as he told the gathering about the cancer specialists, advanced technology, training of UTHSC medical oncology fellows and clinical trials for treatments the center makes available.
Methodist executives will present plans for the campus to the nonprofit health care systems board in December, said Donna Abney, executive vice president for Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare.
